Thorburn Associates (TA) is a full service Acoustical, Technology, and Lighting Design and Engineering firm. TA was founded in 1992 by principals who have consulted on and managed more than 3,000 projects. At TA we are both sensologists and technologists: Acoustic, Lighting and Theatre Designs affect the senses and how someone feels within a space; Audiovisual, Structured Cabling, and Security Designs are technology-oriented and require attention to detail as well as current knowledge of the industry and where it is headed.

We are seeking an organized, detail-oriented technical Architectural, Electrical Engineer or Technical Theatre graduate with CAD and Revit drafting experience for our Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina office. Strong communication and organizational skills, personal initiative, and a background in technical theatre are required.

You will work with our team of consultants and designers. You will document everything we work on from lighting designs for commercial spaces, audiovisual systems and sightlines, to theatre seating layouts and back of house design. You will have the opportunity to thrive in a team environment, be energized by working on multiple projects concurrently and meeting project deadlines, and enjoy sharing your strong technical and graphic skills.

If you can communicate design ideas visually and verbally; have at least a Bachelor’s degree, enjoy technical theatre and/or theatre production design; and are fluent in English read on.

Tools you will need to know or quickly learn:
– advanced working knowledge of architectural layouts, multi-sheet designs and template setup in AutoCAD and Revit.
– be proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook, Photoshop, Sketch-up and Blue Beam to communicate ideas and designs.
– the use of Rhino, Grasshopper, AGI32 or DAYSIM for lighting Calcs.

We are a client-driven office, so you will be pitching in beyond the drafting aspects of the job. This is a full-time position with benefits including paid vacation and health insurance, the chance to work in a collaborative, friendly environment.
