The amazing Adventures of Spider-Man is a theme park ride located in Islands of Adventure, in Orlando, Florida and Universal Studios Japan. Built for the Islands of Adventure’s opening in 1999, the attraction is a hybrid ride combining special roving motion vehicles with 3-D projection, elaborate physical sets, and both practical and tactile effects. The ride takes park guests-turned-last-minute-reporters into the world of Marvel Comic’s Spider-Man. After boarding a Daily Bugle vehicle known as the “Scoop”, the riders learn that the evil Sinister Syndicate has captured the Statue of Liberty with an anti-gravity gun. This evil group is made up of many famous Spider-Man villains, including Doctor Octopus, Scream, Electro, Hydro-Man, and the Hobgoblin.

Thorburn Associates developed the original acoustical criteria for each of the ride zones. During the design phase TA provided recommendations to control and contain the sound from one scene from impacting the next scene. This was accomplished through wall selection, show action door specification, and selection and placement of acoustical treatments. The track based ride platform and vehicle was evaluated as a noise source and as a listening environment for the passengers who experience the on board audio effects.
